EPA Reopens Comment Period for Coal Combustion Residuals Rule
WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is reopening the comment period for a proposed rule concerning the management of coal combustion residuals (CCR) from electric utilities. The action allows for a public hearing to be held on September 12, 2025, and extends the window for public input on the "CCR Management Unit Deadline Extension Rule."
The proposed rule, originally published on July 22, 2025, was subject to an initial comment period that ended on August 21

EPA Withdraws Rule on Coal Combustion Residuals
WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that it is withdrawing a direct final rule concerning the management of coal combustion residuals (CCR) from electric utilities.
This withdrawal comes after the EPA received an adverse comment on the rule. The agency had previously stated in its direct final rule that if any adverse comment was submitted by August 21, 2025, the rule would not take effect and a withdrawal would be published in the Federal Register.
