DOJ Expands Pool for Temporary Immigration Judges to Tackle Backlog
WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review has finalized a rule to broaden the candidate pool for temporary immigration judges (TIJs) to match the qualifications for permanent immigration judges (IJs).
This change, announced by the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), aims to address a backlog of over 4.1 million immigration cases, which peaked in January 2025. The rule allows the EOIR Director, with Attorney General approval
