TOPEKA, Kansas, Feb. 5 -- The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) has granted Merit Energy Company, LLC an exception to the 10-year time limitation for temporary abandonment (TA) status for its Alexander 2-33 oil well in Haskell County. The decision, issued in Docket No. 25-CONS-3209-CEXC, allows the well to remain inactive for an extended period.
Kansas regulations (K.A.R. 82-3-111) require wells inactive for more than 90 days, or in some cases 364 days, to be either plugged or approved for TA

The agreement, which involves firm energy, capacity, and load following, was filed with the KCC on January 21, 2025.
