WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 -- The Federal Communications Commission has voted to eliminate a rule requiring text telephone-based relay services to support the American Standard Code for Information Interchange, or ASCII, a format the agency said has fallen out of practical use. The action came in Telecommunications Relay Services and Speech-to-Speech Services for Individuals with Hearing and Speech Disabilities; Delete, Delete, Delete (CG Docket No. 03-123; GN Docket No. 25-133).
