Brown University Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology Intends to Repatriate Sacred Hawaiian Objects to Hui Iwi Kuamo'o

WASHINGTON, Feb. 24 (TNSFR) -- The Brown University Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology intends to repatriate four sacred cultural items to Hui Iwi Kuamo'o. The museum identified the objects as a tapa textile, a bone fishhook, a stone basalt adze and a plaster cast of a god stick.

Records show W.M. Wood collected the tapa textile in 1939. The fishhook dates to the 19th century and is lashed with olona plant fiber. The basalt blade was donated to the Jenks Museum of Natural Hist . . .
