Tongass National Forest to Repatriate Human Remains to Sitka Tribe of Alaska

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Tongass National Forest is repatriating human remains representing 10 Native American individuals and nine associated funerary objects to the Sitka Tribe of Alaska.

According to the National Park Service notice, the objects include a mortuary pole, bentwood box fragments, blanket fragments, beads, metal, abalone shell, bird down, cordage and cedar bark. The mortuary pole was collected around 1895 from . . .
