WASHINGTON, June 24 (TNSFR) -- The American Museum of Natural History, New York, intends to repatriate a cultural item identified as an object of cultural patrimony and affiliated with the Oneida Indian Nation, according to a notice published by the National Park Service.
The item is a wooden mask that museum records describe as having been used in maternity rites. The mask was accessioned by the museum in 1903 and is identified in museum records as Oneida in origin.
