USDA Agricultural Marketing Service Delays South Texas Onion Marketing Order Referendum Until 2032 Amid Regulatory Overhaul
May 27, 2026
WASHINGTON, May 27 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service has issued an interim final rule temporarily suspending the mandatory continuance referendum for the federal marketing order governing onions grown in South Texas, postponing the next industry-wide vote until 2032. The action is intended to avoid overlapping referenda and reduce confusion among onion producers while the agency undertakes broader formal rulemaking to amend the marketing order.
