WASHINGTON, April 24 -- Midwestern University researchers are highlighting the potential for prevention and healthier aging as Alzheimer's disease remains the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. While the condition affects approximately 11 percent of Americans aged 65 and older, 90 to 95 percent of cases are sporadic, arising from a combination of lifestyle, environment, and genetic susceptibility rather than inherited mutations alone.
