NYC Mayor Mamdani Announces Expansion of Trash Containerization in Brooklyn

WASHINGTON, April 21 -- New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced the expansion of the citywide trash containerization program during remarks in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Mayor Mamdani shared that six districts will receive specialized "Empire Bins" and automated side-loading trucks by the end of 2027 to eliminate bags from sidewalks.

The plan aims to achieve full containerization across all 59 community districts by 2031 to improve quality of life and mitigate rat . . .
