WASHINGTON, April 17 (TNSjou) -- Deleting a single gene essential for maintaining the protective mucus barrier in the intestines leads to the development of invasive colorectal cancer, according to a research study from Harvard Medical School. The findings in mouse models settle a decades-old debate regarding whether a specific genetic defect is a cause or consequence of the disease.
