WASHINGTON, April 7 -- Author Douglas Brinkley discussed the history of American conservation and the transition to modern environmentalism during a presentation at Pepperdine University. According to the book, Silent Spring Revolution: John F. Kennedy, Rachel Carson, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, and the Great Environmental Awakening, current policy debates in the U.S. were shaped decades ago by a combination of writers, activists, and executive leadership.
