Illinois State Museum to Repatriate Ancestral Remains of 16 Individuals to Native American Tribes

WASHINGTON, March 28 (TNSFR) -- The Illinois State Museum, Springfield, has completed an inventory of ancestral human remains and is preparing for repatriation to Native American tribes following findings under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

Museum officials determined that the remains, representing at least 16 individuals, are culturally affiliated with federally recognized tribes which include Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma; Citizen Potawatomi Nati . . .
