Franklin & Marshall Supercomputer Maps Pulsars in Neighboring Galaxies
March 14, 2026
WASHINGTON, March 14 -- Fronefield Crawford, Charles A. Dana Professor of physics and astronomy, utilizes high-performance computing clusters to pinpoint rotating stars within neighboring galaxies. These radio pulsars are compact stars emitting faint pulses detectable through large radio telescopes. Sophisticated analysis packages are necessary to identify these signals. The cluster at Franklin & Marshall provides vital capacity for Crawford to process massive datasets.
