WASHINGTON, March 7 -- Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering researchers developed modular robots with athletic intelligence capable of recombining in the wild and recovering from injuries. These legged metamachines consist of autonomous modules that snap together into various configurations. Each unit contains its own motor, battery, and computer, allowing it to function alone or as part of a larger collective.
