WASHINGTON, March 5 -- Chemistry students at the University of Tampa are developing critical thinking skills while improving methods to extract rare-earth elements used in smartphones and medical diagnostics. Under the guidance of chemistry professor Eric Werner, researchers are refining protocols for the lanthanide group of metals to address inefficient and wasteful current extraction practices that harm communities.
