Fish & Wildlife Service Initiates Status Review for the Lesser Prairie-Chicken

WASHINGTON, March 2 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service is opening a 12-month petition finding process to evaluate the status of the lesser prairie-chicken under the Endangered Species Act. This action follows a court order from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, which vacated previous listing rules for the bird.

The species is a grassland bird that inhabits specific ecoregions across the following states:
