Surface Mining Reclamation & Enforcement to Prepare EIS For Navajo Nation Coal Project

WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement announced its intent to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for a proposed coal mining permit on the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Transitional Energy Company seeks a permit for the "No Name" area within an existing lease, located roughly 22 miles from Farmington, New Mexico.

The proposed permit boundary covers 11,526 acres. If the agency approves . . .
