Pu'uhonua O Honaunau Park Plans Disposition of Ancestral Remains Found After Storm Event

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, Honaunau, Hawaii, has announced its intent to carry out the disposition of Native Hawaiian human remains discovered within park boundaries. The action is being taken under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and follows damage assessments conducted after a high surf event struck west-facing shores of Hawaii Island in January 2025.
