Interior Department: Paiute Tribe's Leasing Ordinance Approved, Grants Greater Autonomy

WASHINGTON, Nov. 24 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs has given approval to the Shivwits Band of Paiutes Leasing Ordinance. This action authorizes the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah to execute various leases without requiring further approval from the Secretary of the Interior. This move is possible due to the Helping Expedite and Advance Responsible Tribal Homeownership Act of 2012 (HEARTH Act).
