Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History to Repatriate Funerary Objects to 6 Native American Tribes

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 (TNSFR) -- The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, California, is preparing to repatriate 40 funerary objects to six Native American tribes. The collection of items includes olivella shell beads and one bird bone fragment.

These cultural items were obtained from a cave southeast of Indian Wells, California, on April 2, 1920. S. Stillman Berry, an invertebrate zoologist, collected them before they were donated to the museum in 1985. Based on available informa . . .
