WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Department of the Treasury Bureau of the Fiscal Service has proposed a rule that would allow federal agencies to publicly identify people who owe delinquent nontax debts.
The measure is designed to give agencies a powerful tool to recover money by exposing violators to public scrutiny. The proposal, which is based on a 1996 law, establishes procedures agencies must follow before releasing debtor information.
