WASHINGTON, July 26 -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology research reactor experienced a violation of its technical specifications on July 24, 2025, according to a report from the licensee. The breach occurred when the console key switch was inserted while the reactor's containment integrity was not maintained, a direct violation of Technical Specification 3.4.1.A. which mandates reactor security under such conditions.
