WASHINGTON, May 31 -- The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, among 29 signatories, released the "Istanbul Declaration" on May 28, 2025, condemning shrinking freedoms across the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean. The statement, stemming from a February seminar, criticizes the EU's "double standards" and focus on security over human rights, particularly regarding the Palestinian issue and increased restrictions on freedom of expression for human rights defenders.
