Fitbit to Pay $12.25 Million Settlement for Failing to Report Overheating Smartwatches

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 (TNSFR) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission has provisionally accepted a $12.25 million civil penalty settlement with Fitbit, LLC, resolving allegations that the company failed to immediately report a defect in its Ionic smartwatches.

The defect, related to battery overheating, posed a significant burn hazard to consumers, with reports dating back to 2018. Despite receiving numerous consumer complaints, including incidents of second- and third-degree burns . . .
