WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 -- Sen. Susan M. Collins, R-Maine, issued the following news release:

Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins officially became Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The Committee holds jurisdiction over all discretionary spending for the entire federal government.
