NEW YORK, Dec. 13 -- The Vera Institute of Justice issued the following news release on Dec. 12, 2024:

Today, President Biden commuted the sentences of nearly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Additionally, he issued pardons for 39 people convicted of nonviolent offenses.
