WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 -- The U.S. Department of the Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued the following news release on Oct. 28, 2024:
Two species of freshwater mussels living in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint basin may no longer require federal protection after decades of partnered habitat restoration work. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to remove the Chipola slabshell (Elliptio chipolaensis) and fat threeridge (Amblema neislerii) from the protection . . .
