WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 -- The U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Service issued the following news release on Aug. 8, 2024:

ATLANTA - The National Park Service (NPS) today announced the selection of Dr. Rolando Herts as superintendent of Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument and Freedom Riders National Monument in Alabama, effective Sep. 9.
