NEWARK, New Jersey, May 1 -- The office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey issued the following news release on April 30, 2024:

Sixteen individuals were charged in connection with a sprawling "grandparent scam" to defraud hundreds of elderly Americans out of millions of dollars, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.
