JEMEZ SPRINGS, New Mexico, March 6 -- The U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Service issued the following news release:

After an amazing 21-year career of scientific inquiry and resource stewardship at Valles Caldera National Preserve, Dr. Robert Parmenter decided to hang up his NPS flat hat and retire.
