HONOLULU, Hawaii, Oct. 4 -- The Hawaii Department of Education issued the following news release on Oct. 3, 2023:

The Hawai'i State Department of Education (HIDOE) named Leilehua High School's natural resources teacher Jackie Freitas the 2024 Hawai'i State Teacher of the Year. Freitas received the state's top teaching award from Gov. Josh Green and Superintendent Keith Hayashi during an awards ceremony at Washington Place this afternoon.
