WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 -- The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency issued the following news release on Sept. 1, 2023:

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that Army Pvt. Daniel Moniz, 19, of Hayward, California, killed during World War II, was accounted for May 5, 2023.

In November 1944, Moniz was assigned to Medical Detachment, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. His unit was engaged in battle with German . . .
