Va. U.S. Attorney: Former Federal Employee Sentenced for Leading $3.5M Unemployment Insurance Fraud Scheme

RICHMOND, Virginia, Aug. 24 -- The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Jessica D. Aber, issued the following news release on Aug. 23, 2023:

A Concord, California, woman was sentenced today to 18 years in prison for her leading role in a conspiracy to defraud at least five states of more than $3.5 million in pandemic-related unemployment insurance benefits.

"Huffman organized a massive VEC fraud conspiracy and abused her position as a federal employe . . .
