WARWICK, Rhode Island, Aug. 15 -- Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-Rhode Island, issued the following news release on Aug. 14, 2023:
Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) celebrated the 88th Anniversary of Social Security. This program, signed into law on August 14, 1935, keeps 22.5 million Americans above the poverty line. Almost 67 million Americans receive Social Security benefits, including over 230,000 Rhode Islanders.
