Ala. Gov. Ivey Announces Alabama Boasts One of the Lowest Unemployment Rates in the Nation, April's Unemployment Rate at New Record Low of 2.2%

MONTGOMERY, Alabama, May 20 -- Gov. Kay Ivey, R-Alabama, issued the following news release on May 19, 2023:

Governor Kay Ivey announced today that Alabama's preliminary, seasonally adjusted April unemployment rate is 2.2%, down from March's rate of 2.3%, and below April 2022's rate of 2.5%.

April's rate represents 51,462 unemployed persons, a new record low, compared to 53,017 in March and 57,712 in April 2022.
