NEW BERN, North Carolina, May 18 -- The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Michael F. Easley Jr., issued the following news release:

Kamel Smallwood, 28, of Greenville, was recently sentenced to 12 months in prison for accepting a bribe as a public official and aiding and abetting.
