LANSING, Michigan, Aug. 25 -- Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, D-Michigan, issued the following news release on Aug. 24, 2022:
Governor Gretchen Whitmer celebrated the impact of the recent decision to forgive $10,000 in student loan debt on Michigan's working families. Up to 50% of Michiganders with federal student debt could have their loans cut in half or forgiven entirely. The pause on payments for all borrowers has been extended through the end of the year.
