WASHINGTON, July 21 -- Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Missouri, issued the following news release:
U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) voted in favor of H.R. 8404, the Respect for Marriage Act, to enshrine marriage equality and protections for same-sex and interracial couples into federal law. The bipartisan bill, which would codify the protections afforded under the Supreme Court's Obergefell and Loving decisions, passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 267-157.
