WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 -- Rep. Kweisi Mfume, D-Maryland, issued the following statement on Dec. 26, 2021:

"Today, the first day of Kwanzaa, is a fitting end for a man who embodied Umoja or Unity. The day after Christmas, where for Christians the child Jesus was given for humanity, is also fitting for a man who put the message of Christ before himself and on behalf of the destitute and downtrodden not only in his native South Africa but all across our world.
