This week, The United States Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas and Secretary of State John Scott to challenge Senate Bill 1 for violating the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Senate Bill 1 -- one of the most restrictive voting laws since the Jim Crow era -- was signed by Gov. Abbott on September 7, 2021.
