WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 -- The National Republican Senatorial Committee issued the following news release on Aug. 5, 2021:
Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger, who has held the job for 16 years, is leaving the Democrat Party and is laying the blame at the feet of Democrats and their 'Defund the Police' mantra. In a scathing op-ed in the Gaston Gazette, Cloninger held nothing back:
"It saddens me that the same Democrat Party that I grew up in no longer exists. . . .
