WASHINGTON, July 15 -- Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, issued the following news release:
U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) called for action to address the drastic increase in overdose deaths in the last year. In 2020, 93,331 Americans died from drug overdoses, a nearly 30% increase from the 70,980 overdose deaths in 2019. 1,377 West Virginians died from drug related overdoses in 2020, a 49.3% increase from 2019. Of the 93,331 overdose deaths, 69,710 of those deaths, or nearly 75% . . .
