DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie M. Rollins released the following statement in commemoration of the 156th Juneteenth in the United States:
"On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and informed slaves of their freedom and the end of the Civil War . . .
