LANSING, Michigan, March 3 -- Michael F. Rice, superintendent of the Michigan Department of Education, issued the following statement :

State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice welcomes the confirmation last night by the U.S. Senate of Dr. Miguel Cardona as U.S. Secretary of Education.

"I congratulate Miguel Cardona on his confirmation and look forward to working closely with him on efforts to improve public education," Dr. Rice said.
