WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 -- Rep. Eliot L. Engel, D-New York, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on Jan. 15 for a full committee hearing on U.S. lessons learned in Afghanistan:
"Our nation has been at war in Afghanistan for more than 18 years.
"Eighteen years. Let that sink in.
"More than 2,000 American lives lost and thousands more wounded. More than 60,000 Afghan deaths. And more than $900 billion doll . . .
