WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 -- Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Nebraska, issued the following statement after the University of Nebraska named Vice Adm. Walter E. Carter Jr., ex-superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, as the priority candidate to serve as the university's president:
