WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Nebraska, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Mark Esper to serve as Defense Secretary by a 90-8 vote:
"Secretary Esper's service as the Secretary of the Army for the past two years has demonstrated that he is an effective leader who understands the threats facing our nation.
