WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, issued the following statement after voting to confirm Mark Esper as the next Secretary of Defense:
"Protecting our national security is my most important responsibility as a Senator--and having a qualified and experienced Secretary of Defense is vital to that mission.
"Secretary Esper has served our country honorably in uniform and at the Department of Defense, and I look forward to working with him . . .
