RALEIGH, North Carolina, Aug. 2 -- Gov. Roy Cooper, D-North Carolina, issued the following news release:

In response to a General Assembly-mandated $5.1 million budget cut for the 2018-19 fiscal year, the Department of Public Instruction in June announced that it was eliminating 61 positions, including 29 positions focused on turning around our state's lowest performing schools and districts.
